The History of the USA I
The USA and the Path to Global Power 1607-1900
The rise of the former English colony to a world power is a unique phenomenon – in conjunction with a pioneering spirit and democratic ideals - as well as with war and oppression.
The main film traces the path of the United States from its colonization by the first settlers to the industrial nation it became. The modules can be used in the classroom to illustrate such key topics as: European immigration, the slave trade, the War of Independence, the American Constitution, the Civil War, Native American genocide, industrialization and social issues.
Among others interviewed was renowned US historian Howard Zinn (1922-2010), who explains American history from the perspective of the oppressed and oft-neglected groups. The footage for these educational films was shot at such historic locations as Plymouth, Boston, Philadelphia and New York.
