Home Front – Revolutions – War`s End
The second part of our series of educational films on the First World War focuses on the war years 1917/18. The USA’s entry into the war and the Russian Revolution were not only decisive for the outcome of the war, but exerted lasting change to the global political balance.
The main film presents the growing war fatigue at the front and in the homeland. All reserves are exhausted, people are starving and long only for peace. The November Revolution sweeps away the monarchy - and the young German Republic is confronted with the consequences of the war and the question of war guilt. Seven modules focus on decisive aspects and turning points of the war: propaganda, everyday life in wartime and the emergence of new political stakeholders, who play a major part in the creation of a bipolar world. One module is also dedicated to the artist Käthe Kollwitz, who lost her youngest son in the war and expresses her grief and pain in her art.
Experts explain the developments leading to armistice and peace negotiations, as well as the global, political dimensions of the First World War.
